About our classes:

Ballet

Ballet

Ballet gives dancers a solid foundation of technique and helps to improve posture, balance, co-ordination, strength and flexibility. Students aged 9+ will study PBT as part of their classes with JLTA. PBT is an innovative strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance.

Jazz

Jazz

This class is a great way to develop well-rounded dance and performance skills. Classes are spent working on technique and routines equally where we teach high energy technical combinations and cover a variety of jazz styles including street jazz, musical theatre, lyrical jazz and contemporary.

Tap

Tap

Tap is a popular and impressive dance style that helps build and improve musicality, rhythm, co-ordination and stamina. As well as doing syllabus work in classes, the students will learn fun dance routines that incorporate a wide variety of genres including musical theatre, street and jazz.

Street 1

Street Dance

Street dance is a very popular style among children, teenagers and adults as it is something they see often in music videos, television programmes, films and more recently on stage in the West End. Street dance incorporates a range of styles including commercial, hip-hop, popping and locking and house. Our street dance classes are performance based, although a strong technical background will also compliment this style of dance.

Infant School

Infant Theatre School

Our Infant classes cover all aspects of performing arts and are aimed at children who are in school years Reception-Year 2. During these sessions the children learn and perform songs, make up stories, learn dance routines to pop songs and songs from stage and screen, act out scripts and play games, as well as putting on regular shows and presentations to parents. Our main aim is for the children in this group to have fun and build confidence whilst learning new skills in preparation for them to move up to the Main School when they go into Year 3.

Main School

Main Theatre School

Our Main School classes are aimed at children aged 7-18 years old. Students are split into 3 groups according to age and in a typical session each group takes part in a singing, drama and dance class on rotation. In their groups the students work on dance routines (covering genres including street dance, jazz, musical theatre), drama pieces (such as monologues, duologues, script and improvisation work), and songs (these can be musical theatre, pop, ballads etc including solo and group harmony work), all tailored to the students age range. There are also lots of opportunities throughout the year to take part in professional shows with touring companies at the Theatre, and to audition for professional representation.

*All students are invited to take part in our annual Variety Show each year, where they get to showcase their hard work at the New Theatre Royal!*

All of our classes are run by trained industry professionals in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment.
